THOU SHALT LOVE THY BARBER AND HAIR STYLIST (YOUR COSMETOLOGIST)

Hello my lovely Ladies and Gentlemen:

How are we doing in this month of May?, WOO, I must say wow we are doing well Praise God.

How is everyone feeling this month?

I pray and hope all are doing well.

Well, this month is National Barber and Hairstyling Mental Health Awareness Month.

May 19th Barbers

May 27th Hairstylists

These 2 days were created by the app Booksy, who took the time during the pandemic in 2021, to actually realize that some Cosmetologists and Barbers go through mental health problems. Here’s Why Barbers and Hairdressers Needs To Take Care Of Their Mental Health: Barbers and Hairstylists frequently find themselves in a position of counselor or therapist to their clients. Clients open up and share their personal lives with us. It can be difficult or stressful for us because most of us like to solve issues and make sure we love our clients. But what about us, I Say Yes! There are different programs and training aimed at assessing a client’s mental state, abuse situations, and even human trafficking. But, again, who's looking out for the barbers and hairdressers? As cosmetologists and barbers, we genuinely love and have a passion for our job lol at least I know I do.

When you enter into your barber salon or beauty salon and sit in a chair, your stylist will ask you how you’re doing, feeling, what has been going on, etc. National Barber and Hairstyling Mental Health Awareness Day on May 19 and May 27th was created to ensure that we, as people, remember to return the question, to check in with our barbers and hair stylist as they so often check in on the clients and guests. As cosmetologists and barbers, they work closely with multiple people every day, dealing with different energies and personalities all the time. So these days it can be so overwhelming when your customer shares their personal struggles with their barber or stylist. Sometimes we are not sure how to deal with what we’re hearing or who to direct the clients to. We are people too. And because most of us are caring individuals, we attend to hold in our issues and frustrations.

Consider this… When you're constantly on your feet, having very busy schedules, and dealing with customers in all types of moods—three things cosmetologists and barbers have to deal with to be successful. We’re not even factoring in Covid-19 and the issues that were brought with it. But I just want to thank Booksy for taking the time to acknowledge that Barbers and Stylists are human too and we also need the care too. So on this day please hug your barber or stylist and ask them how they are feeling. Studies say that at least 43% of our clients actually don’t care how we feel. Or ask how we are doing. Our goal should be to love our clients and make them look and feel good about themselves. Barbers or stylists are essential, we must take good care of ourselves mentally. If you feel you are suffering from mental illness, please don’t hesitate to get professional help. There are many Mental Health programs and organizations out there. Talk to your doctor. Even talk to your Pastor, read uplifting spiritual messages. It is definitely a mindset. I truly love each and everyone. I ask God that for each and everyone who reads this gets blessed and live for the purpose and puts it in His hands. When your barber or stylist asks “how are you doing?” don't forget to check on them too.

On a lighter note, May 27th is Don’t Fry Day, this is funny lol for the fact that I thought it was about frying food for the day lol. It is actually about skin care. Not to fry yourself in the sun and to make sure you are applying the proper sunscreen. But I am going to make this day about Don’t Fry your Hair Day. So let's put down the flatirons, blow dryers, chemicals, on this day. Go to your salon and ask for a great conditioning treatment that goes under the aquatic mister for more moisture and a stimulated scalp, then tell them you would like to rock your natural hair and ask about certain products that would work for you. Or ask for a “back to basic” Roller set. I Say Yes lol. FlatTwist set, Bantu knot set, Rod set, Braid set, or an Old School Strawset. Be creative on this day. Let your stylist educate you on how using the flatirons, and blow dryers improperly can be damaging to the hair. Your hair can get dry and brittle and may cause hair loss or thinning. So moisturize moisturize moisturize. DRINK YOUR WATER, TAKE YOUR VITAMINS, AND MINERALS PLUS on this day. Take care of your skin. Find a great skin regimen and a wonderful Aesthetician.

I truly want to thank everyone for taking the time to read this.

Please let me know if you are enjoying the articles.
