DIRTY HAIR GROWS FASTER; MYTH OR TRUTH

Hello my lovely ladies and gentlemen.

I would like to thank the readers who asked this question. Does dirty hair

grow faster; is there any truth to this? This has been a concern of mine

personally, since I have been a cosmetologist. It was one of those questions that in the beginning I would avoid, only because it is a touchy subject.

But at this point in my career, I have seen more damaged hair, scalp issues,

and hair loss from not shampooing the hair for weeks and months on end,

and/or just not shampooing correctly, especially during this pandemic.

At some point in their lives most women have heard the phrase, “dirty hair grows faster.” Some took it literally and left protective styles in their hair too long and ended up with mold or bacteria in their hair. Now ask yourself how this: your hair going to grow if you have mold or bacteria on your scalp and hair? YUCK.

So what's the truth about dirty hair and growth?

The fact of the matter is that your hair and scalp need to be cleansed pretty

regularly. Never putting water on your hair is unsanitary and may lead to

odor, buildup, and even dryness, breakage, and scalp issues. It is actually a huge myth that dirty hair grows faster than clean hair. Hair in itself does not control growth instead hair growth is determined by your overall health, genetics and the health of the scalp. If the scalp is clogged by excessive oils or grease it is going to be more difficult for hair follicles to grow out of the scalp. Having dirty hair can cause bacteria growth and scalp irritation. The bacteria growth can cause scalp disease and inflammation on the scalp which can in turn can cause your hair to fall out or not grow properly. You have to constantly massage the scalp to get the hair to grow. As I always say where BLOOD FLOWS HAIR GROWS.

Here are some scalp conditions you can get if you don't shampoo your hair often enough:

● Trichodynia (Scalp Dysesthesia): A painful sensation on the skin of

the scalp or the hair itself and becomes more intense when hairs are touched.

● Malassezia (Yeast Overgrowth): This is a monophyletic genus of fungi found on the skin and associated with a variety of conditions, including dandruff, atopic eczema/dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, and folliculitis.

Remember just like any other part of your body, hair is able to thrive when you are healthy and taking care of your body from the inside out. Eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, drinking water, taking your vitamins and exercising regularly will aid in not only hair growth but your overall health.

Thank you to my Queen Size Magazine Community for this great question. Keep the questions coming. Remember to Drink your Water and Take Your Vitamins.
