DO PEOPLE STILL DO ROLLER SETS IN 2022?

Let’s begin with the question, Are Roller Sets still popular?  I SAY YES they are, they never stopped being popular. It just was not taught to this new generation. As a professional cosmetologist for the LAST 30 YEARS. I still do roller sets.

"Wet Set", the first thing that might come to mind is spending an entire afternoon in the hair salon, watching your mom getting her hair done. Or maybe it's a vivid memory of your grandmother sitting with her velcro curls in her hair. Even a quick Google search brings up words like "vintage" and "old-fashioned", so of course, you might think that wet roller sets are not in style or the thing for 2022.

But the wet set has never left and it’s in style in full force. Why? Well, first it gives you gorgeous, fluffy curls with minimal heat, so you don't have to worry about damage. Second, the curls last a little bit longer, so it's one of those styles where you can literally set it and let it go for a few days, let the curls fall, then wrap the hair and get a totally different look than the second week. You can get two styles out of one.

A roller set is a method of styling the hair immediately following shampoo and deep conditioning, while the hair is still wet. A wet set can either create curls or straighten hair, depending on the tools you decide to use. Rollers of various sizes are often used to curl the hair slightly, create a gentle curl or bump the ends while providing volume. People also use straws for straw sets, rod sets, twist sets, etc., creating different styles of ringlets.

Some of the benefits of Roller Setting:

Creates heat-less curls, which is a gentle way of styling the hair without worry of damage.

  • Results in full, bouncy hairstyles, often due to a lightweight product used to set the hair.

  • Creates a style likely to last until your next shampoo.

  • Is a heat-free way to straighten all textures of hair, including chemically treated and natural hair types.

  • Creates a very smooth finished style, without heat.

  • Is less likely to result in frizz when done correctly.

  • Results in styles full of shine.

Roller Setting stretches out and smooths the hair, as you are under the hooded dryer. Roller setting can also help to preserve moisture and is less damaging.

It reduces the risk of heat damage. Direct heat is any heat applied right onto your hair like a blow dryer and or flat iron. It can be potentially damaging because your strands are directly exposed to these high temperatures at close range.

While hot air is still technically blowing onto your hair if you choose to sit under a hooded dryer after applying the rollers, it is an indirect more diffuse source of heat which means that when said heat hits your hair, the temperatures are cooler, and as such your strands are more protected.
