Hello my lovely ladies and gentlemen

Praying that all of you are safe and enjoying your summer. Well, I was asked by our amazing Editor to share with my loyal readers of Queen Size Magazine about what I love about being a licensed cosmetologist. I can honestly say that after 28 years in the beauty industry, I am so blessed and honored to get up every morning and still love what I do. I yearned, at a very young age, when I took all of my Barbie dolls that my mom had started a collection for me out of the boxes and decided to cut and style their hair. Some had mohawks and bobs and I used Kool-Aid to color their hair. My mom was not happy and after she calmed down, she told me that this had to be a gift from God, because I had no formal training and their hair was beautiful.

We were a military family so my mom would take me and my two sisters to the Beauty/Barber Shop on the base every two weeks and I would watch how the women and men would look in the mirror after they were done to see the finished look and they would look and feel so much better about themselves inside and out. I also felt good about myself after I finished crying because I was tender headed. I knew then that I wanted to be the person who could enhance your beauty within and help you grow healthy hair. When I graduated from high school I enrolled in Gordon Phillips Beauty School, which is now called Empire Beauty School. I now sit on their Advisory Board and I also do monthly visits to speak, educate and mentor the new

students that are wanting to have a career in the beauty industry. My clients have now given me the name of “The Hair Doctor of South Jersey” because I am more concerned about your hair care and not the hair styles. I am trained to do any hair texture and I have an ethnically diverse clientele. A lot of my clients have been with me for 28 years and I am doing

their children's hair and makeup. I am now a freelance hair and makeup artist that is blessed to work in Film, TV, Print Media Ads, fashion shows, pageants and now having my own Salon Suite to provide luxury one on one service with my clients. I love to also teach skincare, health and wellness workshops because I want everyone to love the crown of hair that we were born with and take good care of our bodies because what we put in our bodies will show on the outside.

I am about to celebrate my 29th year in this business in November 2021 and 10 years as the President and Owner of I Say Yes Salon & Spa, LLC. When I look back, I have truly loved this journey and will continue making people feel confident and beautiful about themselves.

Last year I was awarded the 2020 Marquis Who’s Who Award for Top Professional Stylist and Hair Salon. People like Oprah, Stevie Wonder, Warren Buffet and Abraham Lincoln have been given this award for the work that they have done. I have not celebrated yet because of the pandemic but I will do something this year in the fall. It still has not sunk in, but I am grateful. It is amazing to be recognized for something that you love to do.

Well, I will end by saying that I just want to use the gift that God has given me to serve his people and remind them that everyone is beautiful and loved. Thank you to my Queen Size Magazine Community. Keep the questions coming.
