QSM: Congratulations on winning Ms. Exquisite Full-Figured D.M.V. 2022. You competed three times before you won the title. Was it for the same category?

Necol: Well, I competed with the Ms. Full Figured D.M.V. system twice and won the third time that I competed in another system which was practice. I competed in the Ms. Full Figured D.M.V. plus category twice and then the Exquisite category and won. Originally my reason for competing so many times is because I was a sore loser. I HATE TO LOSE. To me it triggered some of my past traumas, where people told me I wasn't good enough. For me, I felt like I had to show people I was better than what they thought I was. Truth of the matter is, I needed to prove to myself that I was worthy enough. I believed them, to be honest, but I didn't want them to know I did. So I became very competitive out of fear of people knowing how I really felt. So, competing so many times came from that. However, my brother and longtime BEST friend Yarde Noir (www.yardenoir.com Yarde’s services include MUA, personal styling, creative design, personal branding, and life coaching) sat me down after I told him I needed him to coach me for the pageant and said are you ready for this? He meant him and this journey. He said this time around is so much bigger than the pageant. This is an opportunity to learn and grow and shine your light so big that everyone knows the upgraded version of who NECOL SCOTT is. He told me this is an opportunity to rebrand myself and do things that not only benefit myself outside of ego but my community as well.

QSM: If you could have a conversation with 13-year-old Necol, what advice would you give her?

Necol: Whew, this is a loaded question however I'm never afraid to be vulnerable and open. I would tell her how amazing she is. I would tell her the great woman she has become and everything she went through wasn't easy but it made her so strong. I would tell her how much I appreciate everything she faced for me. I would tell her that the things she went through wasn't her fault and she is smart, she is love, she is resilient, she is amazing, she is beautiful. She can be anything she wants to be. I would tell her that what grandma Mary said was true. Keep your panties up and your dress down. I would tell her not to allow these men to use her body for their satisfaction. They don't and will never love you like you deserve. Save yourself for yourself. You are enough. I would tell her to learn to forgive but never ever let them back to hurt you again. It's ok to let go of whoever isn't good for you. And I'd tell her that the future us will be the first multimillionaire in our family.

QSM: You are blessed to have a large family. Eight children and five grandchildren. Has any of them gotten bitten with the fashion bug?

Necol: Yes that is correct I have a huge family. Five sons and Three daughters and Four grandsons and 1 granddaughter. My cousin who passed away has seven children and I promised her I'd make sure that her family was taken care of, and I'd treat them like my own. So, I have a total of Fifteen children and nine grands. That makes it Five daughters and Ten sons, and five grandsons and 4 granddaughters. Each of them has their own sense of fashion. I allow them to be free and express themselves how they see fit. I guess it's their own fashion bug.

QSM: That is awesome! What challenges would you say you have faced so far on your journey in the fashion industry?

Necol: Not many at all. I haven't gone full-fledged yet. I think for me personally it’s not having enough money to go shopping as frequently as I'd like. I love to go shopping and then let Yarde dress me up and take pictures.

QSM: What made you compete to begin with?

Necol: I wanted to build my confidence. The first system I competed in was in Pennsylvania and I was tied for second place. I felt like if I could do second place there if I competed again, I could win. In 2018 my best sister friend Tiffany saw a flier for the Ms. FF DMV auditions, and she sent it to me, told me to get ready and she was taking me. And the rest is history.

QSM: I know that you will be competing in nationals soon, but do you see yourself competing again in the future? Even if it is a different pageant system.

Necol: To be completely honest, I am not really sure. If the opportunity presents itself and Yarde agrees to be my coach, stylist, makeup artist, hairdresser, and everything else then maybe so.

QSM: You talked a little about your platform “The Aftermath: Healing after the trauma” and how it is personal to you. Can you share some of the ways that you are carrying out the commitment of your platform? Please also discuss your nonprofit organization.

Necol: I have a nonprofit organization called Working Wonders Worldwide that was established November of 2020 during the pandemic. I always wanted a nonprofit to help my community and when Covid-19 shut the world down; what else was I doing? So my other best brother friend Aubrey A. Alston of Alston and Smith (www.alstonandsmith.com) helps people create and start for and nonprofit organizations (Alston and Smith services include organizational assessments, leadership development, team building, change management, process improvement, and human resource solutions). So he helped me get everything together. My nonprofit is geared towards showing people how to heal by helping them realize their traumas and what areas need the most work. My goal is to show people how to live in their light and how to grow in their darkness. A healed woman can heal the generations of her foremothers and future daughters. She can also heal a nation. Men as well. We at W3 do not discriminate. We want everyone to heal. We know that men have been sexually assaulted as well and they deserve their stories told as well.

QSM: Who are YOUR plus icons? Modeling and/or pageantry. And why?

Necol: Believe it or not I am a huge HUGE fan of my sister Queen, Queen Tazah Richardson and Queen Janee Stewart (Jai Elle). They are such powerhouses. They command the stage or the pictures. Whatever they are doing you know they are there. They don't even have to say a word when they enter the room because their presence says enough.

QSM: What is the best advice you have gotten so Far? And advice that you can share.

Necol: My advice would be to always live authentically in who you are. Whether good or bad it's who you are and nobody can be you better than you. Best advice I've gotten is to be present, so you don't miss what's in front of you.

QSM: I love it! Where can people follow you?

The Aftermath: Healing after the trauma

My platform, the aftermath: healing after sexual assault. I chose this platform based off my own life experiences and how I had to overcome them. My platform will create safe healing spaces for victors trying to navigate the many emotions and pain from such a heinous crime. When crowned Queen, during my reign, and beyond I will host two healing retreats a year. In those retreats victors will receive group and individual therapy sessions, yoga or some form of exercise, meditation, and prayer, and many many many other activities. Mentally surviving after that trauma is a lot and that is why it is imperative to create safe spaces. Being able to decompress, cry, scream, yell or whatever is needed to get that pain out is important. Feeling safe, loved, heard, and seen and knowing you're not alone is imperative to healing. Using Therapy groups and learning what tools to use to work through the many emotions is a part of healing after sexual assault. I wish to impact the lives of many women, men, and children so they can go on to live in their best lives and their truths.
