Getting To Know Sandra
“Someone called me an OG the other day and I quietly laughed. But the reality is that I've earned that title.”
QSM: Your leadership extends beyond the digital space. How do you navigate the intersection of online influence and real-world impact, particularly in promoting body positivity and challenging societal norms?
Sandra: I've actively worked on creating a community with a true connection to my followers. Via sharing a true insight to my life, the obstacles of a plus size women in our current society, the reality of aging in our current culture and my true love for dressing the shape I have today, my followers get to see that on my page you will always see the most authentic version of me and my life.
QSM: La Pecosa Preciosa has evolved into a beacon for sharing Outfits of the Day, hair care tips, and beauty recommendations. How do you curate content that resonates with your audience and stays true to your brand?
Sandra: My motto has always been to share things that I truly love. In this space it can be tempting to share everything just for a paycheck but for me money has never been a motivator. I want my followers to know they can trust my recommendations.
QSM: Can you share more about your journey as a trailblazer in plus-size fashion, beauty, and lifestyle, starting from the establishment of La Pecosa Preciosa.
Sandra: Someone called me an OG the other day and I quietly laughed. But the reality is that I've earned that title. With 12 years in this industry my goal has always been the plus size woman. I've stood true to my followers and was part of the inception of what is now known as the influencer industry. Blogging, writing articles, modeling, and consulting for new Plus Size brands, at this point in my life I can say I've done it all.
QSM: Blogger House Curvy Closet is a unique initiative in the plus-size fashion realm. What inspired you to create the first online virtual plus-size consignment store, and how has it contributed to sustainable shopping?
Sandra: They say God gives you what you need, not what you want. In 2015 I moved in with my business partner Darlene Lebron of Suits, Heels & Curves in the home we affectionately called the Blogger House. One day Darlene shared with me her idea of selling her clothes on Facebook and admittedly I thought she was crazy. A few hours later she came down ecstatic about selling everything and that was all the convincing I needed. Over the year we have worked hard to carve out a unique space for ourselves in the plus size industry and have been featured in Forbes and Plus Model Magazine for our innovation. Sustainability and access to clothing has always been our number one goal. We currently donate monthly to local shelters and charitable organizations so that all women have access to beautiful clothing.
QSM: Winning prestigious awards like Full Figured Fashion Week's Blogger of the Year and Content Creator of the Year at the Full Figured Industry Awards is no small feat. How have these recognitions impacted your career and the causes you champion?
Sandra: It is always an honor to receive an award and being recognized for your hard work but the reality is I don't do it for the recognition. I work hard at my craft because that is my work ethic. I've been working since I was 16 and rarely take a day off. I love what I do so most of the time it doesn't even feel like work.
QSM: Recognition in publications like Plus Model Magazine and Forbes is a significant achievement. How do you balance personal branding with contributing to broader conversations about body positivity and diversity in mainstream media?
Sandra: My personal brand is all encompassing of core topics that affect plus size women including, body positivity and diversity. These are topics I live through every day, so they are always in the forefront of my conversations and projects.
QSM: Looking ahead, what goals and aspirations do you have for the future of your career, initiatives, and the impact you hope to make in the plus-size fashion, beauty, and lifestyle space?
Sandra: My goal is to continue being a game changer and an inspiration in the industry. I'm not going anywhere so my hope is that my followers know that I'm here for them as their lives change, as they grow older and even as their style changes.
