EMBRACING CURVES: KIMBERLY BEASLEY AND THE 'THICK THIGHS MATTER' MOVEMENT
"I hate my thighs!" Charlotte York lamented over her "fat" thighs in a memorable episode of Sex and the City, a sentiment that has resonated with women across the country for years. However, times are changing, and curves are being embraced like never before. Leading this charge is Kimberly Beasley, owner of Curvitude Boutique and designer of Curvitude Swimwear and Curvitude Athletics.
Kimberly Beasley's journey to the forefront of the body positivity movement took a significant leap when her Thick Thighs Matter collection reels received an astounding 1.1 million views. Realizing that this was more than just another fashion line, Kimberly saw the potential for a movement and decided to expand its reach by launching a podcast to empower even more women.
The Thick Thighs Matter Podcast: Empowering Women, One Episode at a Time
Set to launch in early fall 2024, the Thick Thighs Matter podcast promises to be a beacon of body positivity and empowerment. Each episode will delve into crucial topics such as Body Acceptance Misconceptions, What Body Acceptance Really Means, and Prioritizing Self-Care. The podcast will also feature special guests, including plus-size yoga instructors and dance leaders, who will share their insights and experiences.
Making Waves with Thick Thighs Matter Swimwear
This summer, curvy girls everywhere will be making a splash in Kimberly's Thick Thighs Matter swimwear. Available on Curvitude's website starting July 1st, the collection promises to celebrate and flatter every curve, encouraging women to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.

QSM: Kimberly, your Thick Thighs Matter collection has garnered a massive following. What inspired you to create this line, and did you anticipate such a positive response?
Kimberly: I was inspired during the BLM Movement. My sister and I were talking in my boutique, and it just came out of my mouth. We looked at each and knew there was something there and decided to act upon it. I have used the saying for a while and most people in Augusta, Georgia are familiar with it, but it wasn’t until I went to NYFW 24 that I saw the true importance.
QSM: The Thick Thighs Matter podcast is launching soon. Can you give us a sneak peek into some of the topics and guests we can expect to hear from?
Kimberly: Well, without giving anything a way…. we will have guests that are local, national and international. Queens, Stylist and maybe an actress or two. But you never know who will be on the show until they are on the show. LOL
QSM: You've mentioned that the Thick Thighs Matter movement is about more than just fashion. What do you hope to achieve with this initiative in terms of body positivity and self-acceptance?
Kimberly: inclusivity!! There is no reason that a beautiful dress can’t be made in all sizes. I remember when I was going up in East Orange, NJ I had a cousin who was a big girl, and my aunt (her mother) could not find stylish clothes in her size; so, she had them made for her. Can you imagine, having to get your daughter clothes made because there was no representation for her at that time. Fast forward to 2024 and we still have these challenges…(not as bad as it used to be) but we still have to fight to have equality in fashion. How crazy is that.
QSM: Your swimwear collection has been highly anticipated for this summer. What makes your swimwear unique, and how do you hope it will make women feel when they wear it?
Kimberly: what makes it unique is my logo on it…and my hope for women once they put it on it to feel proud, embolden, and sexy.
QSM: THICCON 2025 sounds like an exciting event. What can attendees expect from this conference, and how do you envision it contributing to the inclusivity movement?
Kimberly: It’s going to be the Homecoming for all things thick and curvy. Have you ever been to a homecoming for a college…they turn all the way up and they are proud of who they represent. THICCON 25 will be just that.
QSM: As a designer and entrepreneur, what have been some of the biggest challenges you've faced in promoting body positivity and inclusivity in the fashion industry?
Kimberly: Being taken seriously. Some people feel plus size women don’t deserve the representation. How stupid is that and its high time we flex our buying power and make some changes.
QSM: What advice would you give to women struggling with body image issues, especially those who feel their thighs or other body parts don't conform to societal standards?
Kimberly: Stand strong and tall, hold your head up and strut, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and only dogs want bones!
