Why you should love your hair in the Summer months.
Hello my ladies and gentlemen
July is Ultraviolet Rays month, (UV) which is invisible rays that are part of the energy that comes from the sun, so you should know where I am going with this lol.
Are you ready for this heat and humidity? Do you have your sunscreen ready for your body? What about your scalp and hair? Yup for your scalp and hair. You heard me lol. The idea of putting sunscreen on your hair and scalp may initially sound a little strange. However, it turns out that sunscreen for hair does exist. Scalp and hair are a part of the body that we do forget that we also have to protect against the strong UV rays. So, have you ever wondered why your hair is more fragile during the summer? Even though our locks are composed of keratinized, non-living cells, it is still prone to various issues caused by the harmful rays of the sun. This is why it is important that the hair and scalp are completely protected, and steps are taken to care for those strands that may have been exposed to the sun. Still not convinced?
We have all started to wake up to know how important sun protection is for our skin; but when lathering on that SPF 30 or 50 to protect your youthful looks from harmful UV rays, have you ever stopped to think about the effects the sun could be having on your hair and scalp? Elements like saltwater, chlorine and environmental aggressors weaken the hair’s structure, causing brittle strands. Going out without sun protection you can kiss the hair and say bye-bye, especially for those with already damaged hair. It dehydrates the hair
Your hair is GOING TO NEED THE AQUATIC MISTER AND A LOT OF LOVE.
Aquatic Mister is not a steamer, Crystal has had six-hour training and received certification to use the Aquatic Mister by Mr. Kondor Rodnok on October 12th 2020.
Extreme temperatures can suck the moisture out of the hair. But many people are not aware of the elements like saltwater, chlorine, and hair products, which can build up on the hair and scalp, which worsens the situation. Unless shampoo off, these elements can suffocate the hair and disrupt its natural pH, leading to dry, dehydrated hair. And sun damage isn’t limited to your skin, it can play havoc with your hair, causing side effects like dehydration, reduced strength, poorer elasticity, decreased shine, and color fade. Luckily, we have an array of sun-safe products that provide UV protection, ready to save your hair this summer? Using uv safe shampoo and conditioner filled with antioxidants and vitamin C after a day in the sun or apply as a leave-in will effectively remove all the buildup in the hair and restore it to its former health. You must go to your stylist in between to get special conditioning to protect hair and scalp. The scalp is composed of living cells that need to be protected. Much like our skin, the scalp is composed of living cells that are prone to oxidative stress. Even though the scalp is basically covered with hair, without ample protection, UV rays can target those living cells causing sunburn or worse, skin cancer. Especially wearing protective styles that leave your scalp exposed. I HAVE SEEN SUNBURNED SCALP. Wearing a hat is great for filtering the ultra-violet radiation but adding an extra layer of protection is never a bad thing. If possible, style the hair in a way that doesn’t expose the scalp. But if you’re in the mood for a new hairstyle, make sure to spray some sun protection.
Sun can affect your hair and scalp in different ways. It turns out that too much time in the sun can lead to damage to both the structure and color of the hair, and the scalp needs protection from the sun too. One of the more obvious ways is that it can actually change its color. It does this by degrading the pigment in your hair, known as melanin, causing the color to fade. Besides discoloration to the hair, the sun also damages and degrades important proteins in your hair, causing dryness, reduced strength, roughness, decreased luster, stiffness, and brittleness. UV rays can also attack the cuticle, the outside cover of the strand, which ruptures the outer layers and causes split ends or fried ends. BUT THE AQUATIC MISTER. (it can save you). Because hair cells are technically dead, these sun damaged strands will stay in this state until new hairs with more pigment can grow and replace them. Another important note is that fine or light-colored hairs are more vulnerable to sun damage. Darker hairs are thicker and contain more pigment, which offers some more natural protection against the sun’s rays.
Whether you have virgin or color-treated hair, you will notice that your hair slightly changes in shade during the summer. This is because the sun’s rays combine with the oxygen in the air, which causes the melanin in the hair to react and fade. This phenomenon gives a highlight effect to untreated hair, while color-treated hair will notice some fading To prevent this from happening, apply a sun protection product that contains ingredients that act as UV filters. Exposure to UV rays makes the hair brittle and prone to damage. I apologize that I seem to be repeating myself but yes it can be damaging to all textures and types.
Types of sun protection for the scalp
● It’s pretty clear that adding sunscreen for your hair and scalp to your routine is a good idea. However, you probably don’t want to glop your everyday sun cream on your hair. In general, you have four options when it comes to hair and scalp sun protection:
● powder
● spray
● creams & lotions
● hats and scarves
So again please take care of your skin from head to toe plus your hair.
